Terms and Conditions

The ALA Scholarships Handbook [PDF 166KB] is the main reference document for AusAID, institutions and students of ALA Scholarships.
The Handbook has recently been revised and supersedes the ALA Scholarships Manual. Candidates should read the Handbook carefully when deciding whether to apply for or accept an award. Please note in particular the following conditions that apply to students.

Deferrals:

ALA scholarship awards cannot be deferred, therefore awardees must take up their scholarship in the year for which it is awarded.

Return Home:

Under the AusAID student visa conditions, students are to depart Australia at the end of their scholarship and may not apply to return to Australia to live or study for two years.

Dependants / Family Members:

Applicants are advised that there are no funds available to support accompanying dependants/ family members. It is important that award holders take out health insurance cover for accompanying dependants/ family members.
More information on rental rates, schools for young dependants, etc please consult your Australian higher education institution to get update information for that area.

Holding Other Scholarships:

It is important that ALA award holders are not permitted to hold any other Australian Government sponsored scholarship for the duration of the ALA scholarship.

Part Time Employment:

Award holders must get more information on their visa conditions relating to working in Australia. For more information on working in Australia access the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship website. See http://www.immi.gov.au/.
