Information

ADS are offered to equal numbers of women and men for study in contracted Australian Universities and Institutes of Technical and Further Education (TAFE).

ADS are NOT available for courses offered in PNG or any other South Pacific Country – only Australia.

Applications for ADS:

  1. Should align with the Medium Term Development Strategy and Development Co-ordination Strategy.
  2. Should contribute to personal career development and the development of Papua New Guinea.
  3. Some preference will be given to applicants from the Sandaun, Bougainville and Western provinces.
  4. Applications will not be considered in Pilot Training, Divinity or any Double Degree program.
  5. Programs which are available at institutions within PNG will not be supported.
  6. Should demonstrate a minimum of 2 years work experience.

Competition for ADS is strong and academic results of applicants need to be very high. Minimum qualification required to be eligible for an ADS award is a completed Grade 12 or a recognised equivalent qualification.

Public Sector:

Public sector employees are nominated by the Department of Personnel Management (DPM). Interested persons should contact their organisation's Staff Development Officer who will liaise with DPM through the Senior Training Officer, Human Resource Training, Ph 3276358, PO Box 519, Waigani.

Open Sector:

This includes - The Formal Sector - Private Companies, and Non Formal Sector - Self Employed, employees and members of non-government organisations, church agencies, Women’s; Youth and Social Groups and Associations and the unemployed. Australian Development Scholarship Institutions

AusAID has contracts with a number of Australian Universities and Tertiary Institutes of TAFE to deliver education services to the ADS program. These institutes are contracted to provide training, feedback and support for ADS awardees.

It is NOT A REQUIREMENT and IT IS NOT ENCOURAGED, that applicants secure a place at one of the Institutes prior to submitting an application.

AusAID through PATTAF will negotiate placement for the successful ADS awardees.
