Careers in Development

Development partners and international non government organisations are working together to increase the number and capacity of Papua New Guineans available to work with development agencies in a program known as Careers in Development.
The overall goal of the Careers in Development program is to contribute to the quality of development program outcomes in PNG.  The objectives of the Careers in Development program are:

  • To increase the number of educated Papua New Guineans seeking a career in the development sector
  • To increase the number of Papua New Guineans who have the specific skills, knowledge and attributes required to work in development.

The strategies to be implemented in the Careers in Development program are to:

  • Work with the universities to support the inclusion of  development studies into under-graduate programs and to develop post graduate qualifications in development
  • Develop career information materials and conduct information sessions at universities and secondary schools (ideally in partnership with other employers)
  • Conduct a cadetship program
